One of the most common questions i get asked about is where i get my hair products from. The answer is always the same, i'm subscribed to hair boxes. The next question is always, are they really worth it?

So what is a hair subscription box?

A hair subscription box is one which you pay for monthly and each month are delivered 4-5 full sized products (sometimes samples too) but you never know what they are going to be. This comes out on a direct debit, but can usually be paused or cancelled easily enough if you do change your mind.

How much do these usually cost?

They vary from box to box, but usually around £20 a month plus postage and packaging, which is usually about £3. When you think about how much natural hair products cost each, this is a huge saving and we will talk about this more later.

But don't you just end up with loads of products you don't like? What do you do with them?

That is a downside yes. Sometimes, products just do not work for everyone. This is where i love to do giveaways, donate them to family and friends or sell/swap them on RecyCurl. This is a page set up by one of my Instagram curl friends and is a place for people to swap and sell products that they didn't like or that didn't work for them, with other people. As a hair blogger being able to try this many products and review them for you, is a big part of what i do and this is the best way for me to be able to do this without breaking the bank.

Which hair boxes are you signed up to?

Treasuretress is my favourite hair box! These ladies are forever amazing me with what comes in the boxes, plus they also put on events across the calendar which give everyone a chance to not only network and meet the team, but also build confidence and knowledge on our hair. The ladies who run this box are lovely and keep everyone updated on the best way to use their boxes, with little emails. They also do take over boxes teaming up with influencers and brands.

I was previously signed up to another hair box, but i have since cancelled this one as it just didn't impress me any more.

Oh so are they easy to cancel then?

Yes! With Treasure tress they even offer you an option to pause. This means that you can skip a month without cancelling your subscription. Other than that with both boxes if you wish to cancel you can do so easily as long as it is a certain amount of days before the payment is due for that month. I had no issues when cancelling my previous box.

Are there any discount codes for these boxes before i sign up?

Use code CANDI10 and you can save 10% off your first TreasureTress box. Use code CANDI and you get 10% off your first box with Curleebox.

I follow the CGM (Curly Girl Method) are these boxes suitable?

If you follow this method i would recommend you sign up to CurleeBox where they have a separate box for this. Sometimes it is worth checking again when you get the products, but usually i think they are all fine. I don't personally follow this method.

Are there different types of boxes?

As mentioned Curleebox offer a separate box for those on the CGM. They also do a kids box. With Treasuretress there are 3 boxes- mini me, tweens and queens. Depending on what age you are there is a box for you. With tweens and mini me the products will be more safer to use on younger hair. You can also find previous boxes on the websites which are available as one off purchases and also on the treasuretress website some accessories such as t-shirts. Check out the length check tee!
